Data Feeds and Perl Scripts
I've been talking about scripts, and data feeds and RSS for a while now, so I guess it's time
I share what I've learned. If you have tried to build your own website with affiliate links, you know
how difficult it can be to try to code and display a number of related products on a page. And by the
time you get it coded, the price or the season has changed, making your page outdated. This is where data
feeds come in. Amazon.com is one of the most trusted merchants on the internet, and getting approved as
an affiliate is fairly simple. If you want to sign up as an affiliate and haven't already done so, go to www.associates.amazon.com. Sign up and you'll be notified
when approved. Amazon was my first sign up when I started online last summer. Now that you've signed up,
you are ready to build links and collect some commissions on sales. Sounds ok, except that those webpages
have to be appealing enough to attract buyers.
Build A Website That Sells
Amazon.com may be best known for the books, but they have just about everything. With their products you
can build a baby website, excpectant Mom site, video store, toys website, scrapbooking, home and garden shop, let your imagination run wild. They have partnered
with Many stores, and you can bring all this into your own unique website. You can choose a niche, a theme and develop a unique website
with Amazon data. The nice part is that the pages are refreshed each time the page is viewed, showing current products
and prices that will never be outdated. You can include and exclude products untill you get your selection just right.
I'll tell you exactly how...
After months of searching, I found a great solution. It is a perl script and software that you install in
your CGI bin of your server. All you have to do to get an idea of what you
can find is browse Sample Website Built with AE Script
or visit my A Mom's Shop Online Malland you can see what I
did with the Amazon data. It has several webpage templates you can choose from, or create your own like
I did. You can incorporate the data into your existing site, or build a whole new site. The script is called
Associate Engine, Amazon.com's XML web services. You can download and install a free demo to see how it can work for you.
This is liscensed software script that you purchase for $99.95. Once you purchase the script and receive the "key" liscense agreement, you can use it to develop up to 99 websites. You will not have to pay any monthly
fees other than your own web hosting to keep your site fresh and appealing.
The great thing about this is you can use the script
over and over again to build unique sites. I installed the script myself and tweaked it to get the outcome
that I wanted. The investment was well worth it, and in one month, I have just about recouped the cost of the
script.
This is the first of several terrific scripts that I have found. I'll introduce you to more in the near future.
